Gluttonous and omnivorous slugs (snails) densely occupied the gardens and vegetable gardens in the vicinity of the city. These creatures under the root destroy the seedlings of all vegetables and flowers, without exception.

Director of the All-Ukrainian Plant Quarantine Station, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Vladimir Mikhailovich Gunchak spoke about the origin of slugs.

It is known that slugs came to Ukraine from Holland. They easily crossed the state border with traders and their goods. In particular, they were found in batches of flowers and seeds that entrepreneurs are transporting in large batches to Ukraine, says Vladimir Gunchak.

The candidate of science recommends fighting voracious creatures in all available ways: to poison with chemicals, use salt and lime.

A former employee of the phytosanitary service Boris Okhrimenko shared his experience in the summer house. When on his site huge palm-sized slugs destroyed all the crops, he planted a bed of tobacco of the Bakun variety.

But the seedlings did not have time to rise by 1-2 cm, as it was immediately destroyed by slugs. He said that these pests are a universal disaster and something needs to be done with them. First of all, it is necessary to ban the import of flower products from Holland, said Boris Okhrimenko.

As it turned out, malicious snails have chosen not only Ukraine, but also the regions of other European countries. However, tough measures were introduced there. To date, they operate in Portugal and Spain, where no Dutch flower already falls.
