The South Korean government has developed a new vinyl greenhouse, which keeps the room temperature 2-3 ° C lower than the outdoor temperature in summer.
The RDA on Thursday unveiled a new greenhouse model called the “High-Temperature Innovative Intelligent Cold Chamber,” which could change the concept of existing greenhouses.
The newly built facility is 4–9 m higher than existing wide-type greenhouses, whose height is usually 7 m, in order to withstand such climate changes as heat, drought and heavy rains. A device for supplying oxygen and cold water was installed inside the greenhouse, and a large ventilation window was made in the ceiling.
The new greenhouse also provides fog aerosols, shutters and air conditioning to help reduce the maximum summer temperature by 12-13 ° C compared to conventional greenhouses that rely solely on ventilation.
Between the end of July and October, the RDA planted 10 thousand seedlings of berries and 20 thousand roses at the site, confirming that both crops improved in growth and development compared to those grown in ordinary greenhouses.
In the future, the RDA plans to test the effectiveness of greenhouse gases by planting additional vegetables, such as tomatoes and peppers, and flowers, such as chamomiles and orchids, at the facility.
