Over 30% (4,500 animals) of the English cattle population is included in the BVDFree England cattle viral diarrhea prevention program.
It is estimated that it will cost about 61 million pounds a year nationwide.
BVDFree England is a voluntary industry scheme designed to rid all herds of cattle in England from viral diarrhea.
The scheme was supported by over 100 industry groups, including the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Council (AHDB), the National Beef Producers Association and the National Farmers Union (NFU).
The scheme was launched in partnership with the StampItOut initiative, which provides funding from the Rural Development Program of England (RDPE) through veterinarians.
BVDFree England also launched a new tool that helps veterinarians and doctors determine which farms are enrolled in the scheme and see the results of BVD tests on all registered farms.
Cattle viral diarrhea is highly contagious and is one of the most serious animal health problems facing the UK livestock industry.
