Sugar beets grown by Altai farmers showed high yields. Compared to last year, the volume of harvested root crops increased by 96 centners, the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture said.
According to preliminary data, as of October 16 of this year, the harvesting of sugar beets in the region is almost complete. Root crops harvested from an area of 27.4 thousand hectares, which is 99.8% of the planned.
To date, the gross yield of sugar beets has reached 1.294 million tons. This is the highest result in the entire recent history of beet farming. In 2018, on the same date, 872 thousand tons of beets were harvested.
This year, crop yields exceeded last year's figure by 96 centners and amounted to 472 q / ha.
For information, Altai Territory is the only region in Siberia where farmers are engaged in the cultivation and processing of sugar beets.
Here, the only Cheremnovsky Sugar Plant beyond the Urals is functioning, capable of processing over 1 million tons of beets.
In total, about seventy operating sugar factories are located in Russia.
