In terms of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the governments of Canada and the province of Manitoba are investing $ 300,000 in Assiniboine Community College to support the new Animal Protein Nutrition Center (FPC), Manitoba Minister of Agriculture Ralph Eichler said May 13.
The new training center, located on the Victoria Avenue East campus in Brandon, will specialize in animal proteins. The first program is an 11-month certification program for food products (animal proteins).
As part of this program, which begins next month, students will learn protein processing and other necessary skills to get jobs in the industry. Further use of the center allows for specialized training and applied research.“The growing global demand for protein provides our industry here in Manitoba with enormous opportunities for new manufacturing and processing jobs,” said Minister Eichler.
The new Animal Protein Food Center will also address the shortage of labor in the Manitoba meat processing industry. In January 2017, the Canadian Council on Agricultural Research in Agriculture found that the share of vacant jobs in rural meat processing enterprises exceeds 9.5 percent. These vacancies limit production capacity and influence future growth.
