The fear of African swine fever (ASF) spreads to all continents, in the near future experts expect the disease to appear in Spain, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.
Emilio Becker, a Spanish economist and food consultant, believes that African swine fever virus (ASF) will inevitably reach Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain. He stated this during a conference at the Indagra Food & Carnexpo exhibition in Bucharest.
In addition to Asia, especially China, which cannot stop the spread of this disease from one province and region to another, the same situation is observed in Eastern Europe.
In Bulgaria, the national pig population has been reduced by 30% due to outbreaks recorded this summer, according to Dr. Svetla Chamova, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Meat Association.
In neighboring Romania, the situation is so confusing that the ANSVSA veterinarian said the virus had affected 25 districts.
“The European Union is aware of a situation in which 29 districts were affected, and the government reported that ASF affected 33 districts, with 950 outbreaks,” commented Dana Tanase, head of the Romanian Meat Association and vice president of Clitravi.
But not only Europe and Asia are worried about the future of their pork production. Mexico is also creating its gloomy scenario of what will happen if the disease enters the country. Mexico has already faced a couple of diseases, such as PRRS and PED, which are destroying some pig-breeding areas of the country.
Finally, a month ago, British government officials admitted that they were expecting ASF to arrive in the next 12 months.
