Evergreen Siberian larch will help Russian scientists to cleanse rivers from heavy pollution and ensure clean water in the future.
Researchers at the Siberian University presented to the public an innovative adsorbent for rivers. The “cleaning agent” was created from biological raw materials - larch, which grows almost in the courtyard of the research center.
“Today in the rivers of the whole world there are a lot of polluting and poisonous substances,” the developers of the adsorbent note. - We are talking about compounds of heavy metals (such as manganese, copper and iron) and refined products. "We tried to create a tool that will help reduce the level of dirt in the waters."
To begin with, scientists decided to clean up the large rivers of Russia. And the main assistant in this noble and useful event is the raw material from larch Lárix sibírica, combined with chitosan (an aminosaccharide from crustacean shells). As a result of combining these components, it was possible to obtain a water-soluble polyelectrolyte cleaning complex. According to scientists, in the future this complex will not only help clean up rivers of chemical mud, but will also be useful in the process of filtering wastewater at large industrial enterprises.
