An increasing number of Tajik farmers, especially in its southern regions, want to grow paprika. If their number grows, the country will soon be able to stop importing this product, and after a while it will begin to supply it abroad.
Hamraali Azimov from the village of Gairat, a suburb of Bohtar, decided to become one of the first paprika producers in Tajikistan. To do this, he began to study the technology of growing paprika under the guidance of specialized specialists.
2019 pleased the farmer with a generous harvest of tomatoes, bell peppers and garden strawberries. He does not want to rest on his laurels and intends to start growing paprika, for which he has already taken part of the land.A full year of plant growing begins for the Hamraali farm in the winter, when the first berries and vegetables grow in the film greenhouse. Farmers get good profit from the sale of early vegetables. Now the farm is already the second sowing, allocated areas for cabbage, turnips, cucumbers, pumpkin, corn and greens. This year, farmers also plan to grow paprika.
According to Hamraali Azimov, for two consecutive years in the local markets, prices for paprika have been sky-high. Last winter, 60 somoni ($ 6.34) was asked for 1 kg of paprika in the capital's markets, while 36-40 somoni ($ 3.80-4.23) for 1 kg of beef.
Asimov associates such a high cost of paprika with the growing demand for it inside the country. Moreover, the culture is hardly cultivated in Tajikistan, although its climatic and soil conditions are favorable for it.
