Scientists from Ukraine have created a proprietary technology for the production of sturgeon fish in order to preserve their gene pool and revive the population. About this NAAN informs on its website.
Due to the uncontrolled catch of high intensity of sturgeon stocks on an industrial scale for centuries, as well as environmental degradation, the number of sturgeons decreased to a critical value. The same situation is observed in relation to the country's salmon fish, NAAS reports.
Ukrainian scientists noted that the preservation of the gene pool and the revival of the salmon and sturgeon populations should be urgent, because most of the species of these fish are protected by the Red Book of Ukraine and some other countries of the world.
After the creation of new high-intensity sturgeon breeding technologies, scientists worked out methods for the combined formation and use of broodstock sturgeon in order to obtain producers. They were grown in cage fish-breeding systems of reservoirs with natural temperature conditions. In addition, artificial reproduction of fish was used under conditions of controlled water temperature.
The technological scheme of industrial fish farming was tested by controlling the gametogenesis of producers. This made it possible to significantly accelerate the growth process of high-quality sturgeon planting material, NAAS employees noted.
The priority of modern sturgeon breeding of high efficiency is to increase the survival rate of young fish through the use of more advanced methods of feeding fish larvae during the growth period to a viable age.
