On the official page of the program "Geographical Indications of Ukraine" in social networks, a vote is held among users on the topic of how to name an alcoholic product produced in Ukraine under the name "cognac". Note that this project is funded by the EU government.

The fact is that the Ukrainian authorities signed an agreement with the EU countries that the Ukrainian producer will cease to call brandy a drink made at Ukrainian facilities for the next seven years. Because the word "cognac" is a protected geographical indication. That is why not so long ago in Ukraine they stopped calling sparkling wine champagne, since the geographical indication “champagne” suggests that the product was made in the French province of Champagne.

Until 2026, Ukrainians must find a new name for the product that is now called cognac. Or call this product brandy. Activists of the project "Geographical Indications in Ukraine" offer Ukraine to acquire their own names that have nationality. So, within the framework of the voting, the following names are proposed: amber, cannula, ukrnyak, chianok, vinal, solntsedar, flame, grogon or oak.
