A request to the European Union to increase quotas for the export of chicken meat from Ukraine came 3 years ago. All this time, the European side was in thought and only now agreed to make some concessions to Ukrainian producers, the director of the Association of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine Sergey Karpenko said in a statement.
The EU was in no hurry to increase duty-free quotas from self-interest, since it is much more convenient for it to sell chicken meat to Ukraine than to buy it from it. This is the usual tactic of countries that are trying to protect their domestic market. The EU has its own producers of poultry meat, and increasing imports of Ukrainian products are not at hand. Nevertheless, after three years, Ukraine has achieved a solution to the issue in its favor. Now documenting is expected, said Sergey Karpenko.
The market of European countries is open for Ukrainian exports, but optional. Previously, the agricultural sector was not a priority under international agreements. Now export of agricultural products brings about 40% of all income in foreign currency and the small quotas of Ukrainian traders have not seduced for a long time, the director of the Association of Poultry Farmers summed up.Recall that the European Commission reached an agreement with the Ukrainian side on the issue of an agreement on a free trade zone and an increase in duty-free quotas.
