As part of the World Food Program, the Russian Federation extends a hand of humanitarian aid to the people of North Korea.
Based on the fact that the Koreans have been trying for many months to overcome the consequences of the severe drought of 2018 and an acute shortage of provisions, Russian farmers sent a little less than two thousand nine hundred tons of wheat to the suffering state last week.
It is noteworthy that a few days before the shipment was sent, North Korea received another thousand one hundred tons of wheat grain from Russia.
It is important to add that earlier the Russian Federation already sent “wheat greetings” to hungry Koreans - large quantities of grain were sent in February 2019, as well as in March and April. At the same time, how much of all wheat the Russian Federation sent to North Korea is not reported.
It should be noted that arid weather conditions and the loss of the lion's share of the crop in the fields of North Korea in 2018 reduced the volume of food production to the level of a decade ago.
And today, at least ten million inhabitants of the country (which is about 40% of the total population of the DPRK) live in conditions of unusually acute shortage of food.
Given all these factors, Russia sends wheat to North Korea, primarily for the manufacture of food products for women who are expecting additions in the family, and young children.
