The murmuring and iridescent water on the site visually expands the space, and in addition, it is pleasant to relax next to the reservoir. But for the device to run smoothly, he needs a good pump. How to choose the right pump for the fountain
For small ponds, so-called summer pumps are available for sale. This type of device differs from professional equipment in its small size and ease of operation. The device is mobile, that is, it does not require additional communications, coping with self-pumping. Suppliers offer different equipment, with different equipment.

When choosing a pump for a fountain, several characteristics should be taken into account:
- the ratio of the power of the device and the size of the bowl of the reservoir;
- fountain type - jet, cascade, "bell", etc. (features of the configuration are given in detail below);
- power consumption;
- volume and speed of water supply;
- case material (the service life depends on it);
- type of placement (submersible, surface).
The average power range of a centrifugal compressor is min 24V, max 220V. Pump performance is the force of its head and the height of the jet. For example, for a 0.5 meter high geyser feed, the required output is 4000 l / h (or 4 m³ / h).
Types of equipment
According to the type of placement, the pumps are divided into submersible and surface. Submersible pump is good where there is no way to equip a place for its installation on land. The surface compressor, according to the name, is not in the water, but next to the pool. Such an installation requires protection of the device from the influence of the external environment.
Submersible models
This pump is often chosen for the maintenance of low fountains or waterfalls, where the height is not more than 2 m. The device is completely in the water, its sprinkler periodically rises above the surface and comes back. For operation of a small and medium power submersible pump, 24V power is usually sufficient.

- silent - water drowns the generator;

- economy - absorbs relatively little electricity.
- Disadvantages:
- the instruction intends the device to pump clean water, and does not recommend use in reservoirs with a natural bottom, in streams (soil, silt);
- there is no way to see damage to the case or parts of the device in time;
- For repairs, disconnect and remove to the surface.
Most modern models have filters, but they are designed for dirt particles with a fraction of not more than 2 mm, volume not more than 50 g / m³. There is also a series of submersible drainage units for construction work, but their purchase is impractical due to the high cost. Therefore, for garden ponds, the bowl of which does not have a concrete, stone or other solid substrate, it is better to use surface pumps. Otherwise, you will often have to pay attention to the filters and clean the system.
Device installation
Before installation, it will be correct to make a small pedestal, since water is drawn in the lower layers, and it is here that dust and dirt particles settle. To create a substrate, stone or brick is used. Before installation, water must be drained.
Important! When connecting any type of water compressor, make sure that there is a fuse in the mains. You need to be sure that in the event of a violation of the tightness of the insulation, the system will stop supplying current, making it safe from an accident.
Sequencing:
- Pumping equipment is assembled on the surface, connect the supply pipe, hoses and power cable, referring to the instructions.
- A non-return valve is installed on the compressor nozzle (in some models it is provided for by design), then liquid purification filters.
- When installing the water injection hose, its position should be as even as possible.
- The standard hose length is 10 m; if necessary, use adapters.
- Here you need to remember: the larger the interval between the components, the greater should be the feed force. The strength of the flow, in turn, depends on the cross section of the hoses and pipes.
- All connections - couplings, adapters - must be carefully insulated.
- Lastly, an electric cable and an immersion cable are mounted.
The power cord also needs to be aligned, it should not have excesses. Reliable waterproofing is required.
Surface systems
Models are used in open artificial reservoirs with no equipped bottom. Only the supply hoses are immersed in water, so the appliance is less sensitive to dirty water. To protect against particles of bottom sludge, a valve with a filter mesh is attached to the hose.
- Advantages of the surface pump:
- during assembly there is no need to pump out water;
- ease of maintenance - all details are visually visible (except for water pipes);
- the ability to connect to two objects (fountain, waterfall).
- Disadvantages:
- noise - the generator is on the surface;
- price - usually more expensive than submersible models;
- needs protection from the sun and precipitation, it is advisable to install in a box.

- The pump has 2 outlets. On one fasten a soaking-up hose with the backpressure valve.
- Then install the filter mesh.
- The hose is lowered into the pond.
- On the other pipe mount a water supply hose.

When choosing a unit, pay attention to the average power. Pumps operating at minimum or maximum speed are not profitable: they quickly fail.
