The needs of the pedigree pig market in Ukraine today have changed significantly. This was told by the director of the "Pig Breeding Center" LLC Evgeny Krivorot.
“Today, terminal animals have the highest demand - 90%,” he noted. - To obtain the F1 hybrid pig, we use maternal lines of large white and landrace breeds. To get a high-quality meat commercial livestock, F1 pigs are covered with a terminal boar, which allows to obtain the maximum effect of heterosis on fattening. ”
For information, the Pig Breeding Center specializes in breeding and raising purebred large white and landrace pigs, as well as a synthetic line for the production of commercial pigs.
Large white breed of pigs
Today, the breeding center grows about 1.3 thousand heads of main sows (600 heads of large white and landras each, and 100 heads for terminal boars) and about 12 thousand of the total population. Of these, more than 6 thousand pigs were fattened.
The concept of “terminal” or “paternal” boar began to appear in Ukraine since the beginning of 2000 and is very popular today.
Landras pig breed
The terminal boar is an animal that is used as a paternal form for the production of highly productive young stock. The offspring of this animal is guaranteed to show the effect of heterosis in feeding and meat qualities.
